What to Look For When Shopping For a Harley

Buying a motorcycle is like buying a car — it takes time, patience, and a strict budget. Whether you’re buying your first motorcycle or are looking to add another to your collection, here’s what you should look out for when shopping for the right bike.

What Kind of Bike Are You Looking For?

Before you start shopping it’s important to know the different types of motorcycles available. If you’re looking for something to ride at high speeds, a sports bike is probably what you’re looking for.

However, if you’re looking for a beginner bike, a standard motorcycle may be the right choice. Cruiser bikes are also popular, as they’re great for long trips, but they can be difficult for new riders.

Consider Buying Used

While it may be tempting to want to buy a new bike, consider buying a used motorcycle instead. Just like cars, motorcycles lose their value the second they’re driven off the lot. So, not only will you save a lot of money by choosing a used car, but it’s just the smarter option.

Inspect the Bike

Unlike shopping for a car, oftentimes you won’t be able to test ride a motorcycle. This is usually for liability reasons and most people won’t let you ride a bike until it’s properly registered and insured in your name. However, you can inspect the bike very closely. If you have a friend who really knows bikes, bring them along with you for the inspection.
